#Today 19/08/2021 (Avani 3) Srirangam Sri Renganathar Temple is celebrated every year in the month of Avani-Purattasi for 9 days.

Accordingly, this year's Pavitra Utsavam began on Monday. Special pujas are performed around Lord Namperumal in the Yajna Saalai. Hence, this event is also known as Pooparuthya Ekadasi. All the shrines of the temple are decorated with rouned threads for all the small and large murtis, including the presiding deity and the procession deity. Hence, it is also known as The Thread Festival.

The festival is being celebrated in Srirangam as Thirupavitra Utsavam. On the occasion of the Pavithra Festival, the procession deity Namperumal leaves the sanctum sanctorum every evening and graces the devotees at Pavitrotsava Mandapam near the Kodimaram.

During the Poochandi service, rounded threads were decorated with coils and curls throughout Tirumeni, including the Thirumukhamandalam of the presiding deity Renganathar. This scene is frightening to the eye. Hence, it became a habit of referring to it as the Poochandi Sevai.

Devotees can worship this Poochandi service from 2 pm to 6 pm.

One of the festival's main events is the Anga, Upanga Seva, known as Poochandi Seva, which will be held today (Tuesday) afternoon.

This is called Anga - Upanga Sevai, the mahatmiyam behind this Seva is very big, As its Pavithrotsavam scared threads are placed over all over Periya Perumal from Thiruvadi to Thirumudi. It's placed in such a way that looks like a circle.

Here each thread circle represents each Logam (universe), The significance is Perumal's Thirumeni carries all the universes that were created by him.

Pavithrostavam is usually carried out to rectify all the faults and shortcomings caused during the rituals that happened throughout the year. On this second day utsavam (10 days festival) Periya Perumal represents that he's the only Paramathmaa who does Shristi. As it'll be uneasy for Perumal's thirumeni, he quickly turns back to the usual form, so darshan timings are few hours only.
